ARTS & LETTERS

The National Commission of Arts & Letters was established in 1973 by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated’s 15th National President, Lillian P. Benbow, and was co-chaired by renowned Deltas Leontyne Price and Lena Horne.

Honoring this powerful legacy, the Columbus (OH) Alumnae Chapter’s Arts and Letters Committee is dedicated to developing programs that celebrate creative expression across the performing, visual, and literary arts. The performing arts hold a rich and enduring place in African American history, and we remain committed to preserving and elevating this cultural heritage.

In alignment with the National Arts and Letters Commission initiatives, the committee plans and executes impactful programs designed to inspire, educate, and promote artistic excellence within our community. These programs include Red Hot Jazz Fusion, Delta Authors on Tour, Delta Reads, and Delta Red Carpet Events.

CRIMSON PAGES

Crimson Pages provides a platform for sorors who are passionate about literature to cultivate and enhance the chapter’s literary engagement throughout the year. The committee promotes thoughtful discussion around books that support both personal and professional growth.

Crimson Pages proudly sponsors the chapter’s Literary Café, the Little Free Library and collaborates with the Education Committee to donate books to local schools, expanding access to literature within the community.

Little Free Library

Our Little Free Library was established on Saturday, September 30, 2023, as part of our Midwest Impact Day of Service projects. Located on the grounds of Woodland Christian Church, this initiative reflects our commitment to literacy, equity, and access to diverse voices.

Guided by the theme “Seeing Black in REaD,” this project honors our National Library Project, first launched in 1937, and underscores the importance of representation in literature.

Our goal is to highlight frequently banned or challenged books that address vital topics such as gender, sexuality, and race in America—particularly works written by Black authors and Authors of Color. Through this Little Free Library, we aim to inspire learning, meaningful dialogue, and community connection.
